Eggs vs Cereal for Breakfast

Everything you learned about eggs and cholesterol is outdated, and your breakfast choice is probably costing you energy all morning.

By Laura Carter – Health Report Daily

Eggs don’t raise blood cholesterol for most people, but cereal can spike glucose and leave you hungry by mid‑morning.

Should you switch From cereal to eggs for breakfast?

"Don't eat eggs. They're bad for your cholesterol." We've all heard it. My wife still believes it.

And for decades, doctors believed it too. It started back in the 1960s... scientists found cholesterol in egg yolks and assumed eating it would clog your arteries.

It sounded logical. But biology isn't always logical.

The Truth...

Modern research has completely flipped the script. We now know that for most people, the cholesterol you eat has very little impact on the cholesterol in your blood.

The truth is, your liver produces about 80% of your body's cholesterol internally.

So, just eating cholesterol doesn't significantly increase your cholesterol.

The True Villain...

So what actually raises your bad cholesterol? Insulin spikes.

And guess what causes massive insulin spikes? That "heart-healthy" bowl of cereal.

Even whole grain cereal turns into glucose rapidly. It spikes your blood sugar almost as fast as white bread, according to glycemic index studies.

That spike triggers insulin. And high insulin triggers your liver to produce more harmful cholesterol.

The Real Hero?...

Eggs do the opposite. They're high in protein and healthy fats. They keep your blood sugar stable and your insulin low. Studies even show that for some people, eating eggs improves the cholesterol profile by raising your "good" HDL.

But for other people, eggs may have a neutral effect on blood cholesterol levels.

Your results could be different than mine.

But I know what you're thinking... "What if I'm different? What if eggs ARE bad for me?"

That's a fair question. And you shouldn't just take my word for it. You should test it.

How to Test For Yourself...

To test it for yourself, use a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) like Levels.

Eat your normal cereal one morning. Watch the curve. See the spike.

Eat eggs the next morning. Watch the curve. See the stability.

You'll have irrefutable proof of which breakfast keeps your body in a healthy state.

The Proof is in the Data...

My wife was the biggest skeptic about the egg thing. But when I showed her the actual data from my own body—flat line with eggs, huge spike with cereal—she couldn't really argue with it.

It gave us both peace of mind to know we were making the right choice based on my biology, not just endless internet debates.

If you want that kind of certainty for yourself (or your family), take a look at Levels.
